This is a very vulnerable post for me. And If you have been reading my blog for awhile then maybe you have read a little bit of my story.
I have only just started to share my journey through my past and also realizing how much it has to do with why I create what I do. Do to this realization, It has really become clear to me that no matter how difficult it is for me to admit certain things about my past, or how it has affected me up until this point. I have finally realized it is nothing to be ashamed of and that it is my duty as an artist to be vulnerable and to share my pain, my struggles, and my triumphs. It what makes me me, and I’m proud of me.
A couple weeks ago, while sipping my morning coffee, and get ready to dive into my daily routine, I see an email with the title, Today I Am Brave. Naturally wondering what could this exciting email be, it was the first email I clicked on. The email stated, that they were a group called Today, I’m Brave which is a heart-centered, socially driven experiment that celebrates people performing Brave acts every day and everywhere.
Ok you have my attention!
They mentioned they loved one of my articles on the Huffington Post that was about moving past your fears, but they wanted to know why I wrote it, so they asked one simple question. Please tell us what makes you brave?
I wrote back with one of my stories I believe I put on my blog maybe about a month ago about my struggles with bullying. They messaged me back the next day saying that everyone in the office was really moved by my story and asked could they come to my studio to interview me. I said of course!
It’s very hard for me to watch this, one being that I really dislike watching myself on camera and two because this is just so hard for me to actually hear what I am saying out loud, but nonetheless here it is. Because no matter how hard it is, I am making a choice, and that is, today I am choosing to be brave. I am choosing to move past my fears of people judging me and being as authentic as I can be.
I feel honored to be a part of something that seems to be moving towards a movement, because I know how important it is to get up everyday and make that choice. It’s not always easy, and somedays are better than others, but when you have people sharing their stories everyday about how they get up everyday and make the choice to be brave, it inspires others to do the same. You build community by sharing your story, because the simple act of expressing yourself gives others permission to express themselves.
I encourage you to check them out, and if you are inspired, then please share, so others can be inspired too!
