bridal boudoir

Bridal boudoir…. a little about one of the favorite kind of intimate photography session that I have with my young and vibrant clients!

I think all my readers know that I did wedding photography – the conventional kind – for a quite a few seasons. The rushing around, the tiredness, the jostling for the perfect angle and obviously the Hors d’oeuvres shoved in my face had me running for cover in a hot second!

As I sip champagne in my cool posh studio, I reminisce about the days gone by and thank my decision to make the transition to the art I pursue now. But the dramatic change in the quality of my life and the feeling of satisfaction with my career are not the only reasons why I am a boudoir evangelist and I advocate a session for every bride to be. The reasons are more fundamental, intangible and well altruistic because bridal intimate photography is truly a once in a life time opportunity!

It makes perfect sense. A wedding is the D-day for most women. It is something they dream about and plan for with detail and enthusiasm. And they pay due attention to their own bodies in the process. It is so easy to go over the grooming to-dos with a bride to be. She is primed up for visual coverage and has spent literally hours perfecting her figure, her skin and her hair.

Brides glow! And this glow is enhanced by the deep joy and true happiness she feels inside. It is only fair that they have the expertise of a professional photographer who can capture their gorgeousness with tenderness and truth for all of posterity.

You are at your best beautiful just before your wedding! Capitalize on it and take a peek at what hubby dearest is getting for life.

Intimate photography sessions never need to be overtly sexual. They are more ‘now you see it, now you don’t’ instead of in your face and crude. Just go over the images in my gallery if you do not believe me! But the pose, the lingerie and the setting don’t really matter when it comes to the transformation inside. For some ladies an exposed thong may be a bold step in the direction of empowerment and for some women extreme boudoir may not be enough. The real magic happens in the head. When you step out of your comfort zone, you revel in your own glory and start living a regret free, fuller life. This confidence just before marriage can work wonders for your relationship. You take control of who you are – a mature, sensual woman who knows what she wants and how far she is willing to go. In a sense bridal boudoir is a rite of passage. From being a girl to blazing womanhood!

Most brides court my camera with the intention of ‘wowing’ their prospective grooms. But what many women do not realize is the real value of this precious gift. Gifting shots of such intimate candor and vulnerability to your significant other stands for a symbolic throwing down of the guard. It is akin to inviting him into your world and taking the initiative of showing him your authentic self. It is more than anything, a mark of trust. And a promise of beautiful moments shared together over the coming 50 years! Nothing else comes even close. Trust me!

If you are still in two minds about your bridal boudoir session, hit “Add Comment” and spill the beans. We have a lovely community of women supporting and advising each other here. We will resolve your doubts for you!

Till then,

bridal boudoir

Wedding season has arrived and I am so excited that these days that I am in my nice cool studio playing dress up, sipping champagne, listening to music, and shooting hot and sexy bridal boudoir.  It certainly beats running around for 8 hours, following the bride and groom around, scarfing down granola bars and chugging energy drinks or any type of caffeine I can get my little hands on to get me through the day.  Now I have my weekends back, whooohooo and hopefully I never ever have to hear YMCA ever again.  My beautiful brides are less stressed and less dressed, which I love, of course.

For those of you who don’t know me, I shot weddings for a hot second, I think around 120 or so.  After one summer of shooting 30 weddings, I was done, toast, burt the F*** out and I was not inspired by my work.  Wedding photography is fun, on occasion, but I just wanted more. I wanted something that would inspire me, empower my clients, and stand the test of time whether or not they were to stay together with their mate the rest of their life.  I took a good hard look at what I wanted, what challenged me, and what I was passionate about, and it was making women feel beautiful and making them look sexy as hell.

Bridal boudoir photography is gaining more and more popularity and I just think it is one of the best gifts you could give your wonderful husband to be. It also a makes for a wonderful anniversary gift, hell it’s just a great gift and I so thrilled brides are showing up in my inbox everyday!

I have had some really beautiful bridal boudoir clients over the couple years and absolutely stunning shots that I am not always aloud to show, so I am ever so thankful when I my clients allow me to post their beautiful photos! bridal boudoir

Boudoir and Weddings: Made for Each Other

Wedding season is here and I know the beautiful brides are looking for the hottest new gift for their husband to be, what other could it be than Boudoir photography?

Boudoir photography has been heating up the wedding scene for the past few years — and for good reason. When done right, the shots are the perfect mix of sensuality and simplicity. This “spicy sweet” aesthetic is indicative of its 18th century French roots — where boudoir referred to a woman’s private dressing and bathing room, the place where only her confidantes, handmaidens, and lovers were permitted.

Nowadays, this something that was once so private has emerged as a mainstream art, something worthy of magazines and museum walls. Yet, despite its popularity, Boudoir is still incredibly personal and intimate, which is its inherent charm.

After a photo shoot, many brides-to-be only share the photos with their future spouse as a wedding gift. It becomes a beautiful, sexy secret between lovers.

And trust me, ladies, Boudoir is the gift that keeps on giving.

But Boudoir doesn’t have to be a secret, it could be anything you want: a party with friends, a chance to show off your pre wedding bod that you have been working hard on. It can be to celebrate a milestone, or a way to capture how beautiful and sexy you are at this point in your life.

Getting started

Choosing a photographer

Choosing a Boudoir Photographer isn’t easy! You’re making a significant investment in your visual memories, about to record one of the beautiful, fleeting moments of your life –you want it done the right way, don’t you?

Of course you do!

As someone who’s been in the photography business for more than a decade, I’ve learned a thing or two about what separates quality photographers from those who are not so quality. One of the most important things to know is that when you make this investment in photos is that Boudoir Photography isn’t just about photography, it’s about the total Boudoir Experience.

Don’t know what that looks like? Here’s a simple checklist to point you in the right direction.

1. Style

Every worthy photographer has a defined style that’s uniquely their own. A photographer whose work is clearly all over the place isn’t really worth your time, because you won’t be able to depend on them to produce the kind of photos you really want.

When you’re browsing through the websites of potential photographer candidates, and it should go without saying that having a solid website is the mark of a professional, look closely on the kind of work they consistently create. You’ll find some are classic, edgy, versatile, black and white, glamorous, bright and fun, etc. Now imagine yourself as the subject of these photos, because that’s a pretty good indicator of how your final photos are going to look.

If you love a Photographer’s style, that’s step one for making the decision to work with them.

This is often a difficult matter to discuss because most people don’t fully understand the amount of time, talent, and expertise that goes into creating professional grade  photos. Ultimately, booking a session is going to be an investment, but determining the amount of that investment is entirely up to you.

You’ll need to ask yourself how much you would like to get out of the experience, do you want someone who’ll provide an empowering experience with all the trimmings, a luxury-style intimates photographer who will transform you into a queen for a day, or do you just want some photos taken, or maybe something between these two extremes?

As I’ve said before, Boudoir is ultimately about the complete experience. Personally I think you owe it to yourself to have a bigger budget, and to enjoy the luxe intimate boudoir experience of a lifetime.

 3. Experience

If you’re sick and go to the hospital, would you want to be treated a part-time doctor who is also going to school to be a lawyer and has only been practicing for a year, or would you want someone with a solid reputation in the area who has been doing it for more than a decade? The answer to this is obvious. And even though photography isn’t a matter of life or death, most people don’t take into consideration just how much a photographer’s experience in the art affects the quality of their work.

Also, a point to think about when you’re choosing a photographer, does the person you have in mind do this full time or part time? A photographer who does this full time is fully committed to consistently producing top of the line, quality work because he or she has to in order to support themselves. Someone who only does this part time has less at stake, and won’t be as dedicated to making sure you have a worthwhile experience. Someone who does this day in and day out, and has done so for some time, knows how to create a quality experience again and again, and they’ll be able to do the same for you.

4. Final Product

Do you just want some photos or are you interested in the full presentation?  Photographers offer a wide range of products, both digital and print, to display your photos. Look for someone who offers a large variety of professional options, someone who ideally does the printing in-house and who can customized the finished product to meet your unique needs. Photographers who have a hands-on relationship with your printed images are more invested in the quality of these images, and you’ll get exactly what you need.

5. Extra Goodies

You want to look and feel your best on the day of your session. The best photographers know this and will usually have a hair stylist, makeup artist, and wardrobe specialist they work with to ensure that you are the star of your big day. They should be able to help you decide on outfits, know how to prepare yourself before the shoot, and throw in some champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to sweeten the deal.

Boudoir photography isn’t just a trip down to the local portrait studio (yuck!), it’s the complete experience, designed to make you feel incredible. Don’t settle for less than you deserve, use this checklist to choose the photographer who is perfect for you.

Over the summer Boudoir Los Angeles will be kicking off the summer with some very special boudoir bridal marathons. The  first  date will be June 28th and 29th.
